Nigeria will achieve food sufficiency soon – Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has assured that Nigerians will soon achieve food sufficiency, saying his programmes and projects are working out to ensure that this is achieved.

The president, who stated this during the groundbreaking ceremony of the 84-kilometer Bida to Minna road in Kakakpagi, Katcha local government area of the state, called on state governors to key into his administration’s agricultural revolution and plan on food security.

According to him, if the state governors can adopt this, it will relieve the citizens of the current hardship that they are experiencing and ensure that they have sufficient food.

The president, who was represented by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, said his campaign promise to make Nigeria self-sufficient was being fulfilled despite “enormous challenges.”

He commended the several development initiatives embarked upon by the Niger state governor, saying that the development strides of the governor are in line with the charges he gave to sub-nationals to support the federal government in ameliorating the challenges facing the people.

”For governments at all levels to grow, there must be cordial relationships. The Federal Government will support Niger to ensure that the desired prosperity is derived. Road construction will save lives and create avenues for greater economic development,” the President said.

Niger state governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, said that his administration has commenced the construction of over 1000 kilometres of road across adding that the road constructions would be completed in due time.

He said that those waiting for the failure of the road projects a toss the state will wait in vain as the administration has put all machinery in place to ensure the projects do not fail.

To this end, he disclosed that his administration has secured N500 billion to construct the roads stressing that nothing would stop the completion of the roads.

“Today is historic to us, as a state, this road has been here and followed for too long. This road is sponsored and financed by both the Islamic Development Bank, Abu Dhabi, and the Niger State government.

“The Islamic Development Bank and Abu Dhabi Fund have provided 100 percent funding for this project. For your information, all the 1000 km roads we have commenced have gotten N500 billion in funding.

“And above all I want to especially thank Mr President for his magnanimity in granting the tax credit scheme to continue. From this venue, I can tell you boldly that the tax credit scheme has awarded road contracts from Minna to Kontagora funded 100 percent, today we have awarded contracts from Bida to Zungeru funded 100 percent, and the continuation of the road that has started from Lapai to Mokwa has already been funded 100 percent”, he stated.

The governor stated that the road projects are encapsulated in his administration pact with Nigerlites under the New Niger Agenda adding that the road projects across the state which the government has embarked on can create three million direct and indirect jobs.

“So the teeming youths that are here, you have the opportunity to be suppliers of cement, stones, sands, and we have given a marching order to all the contractors to patronise only local contents,” Bago said.

He stated that the groundbreaking ceremony marked the beginning of the construction of the 84-kilometre standard dual-carriageway with street lights, interchange, and underpass at both ends of the road adding that the road would be of immense economic importance to the state and the nation as it serves as a major link the western parts to the northern parts of the country.

”This project is of paramount economic importance to us as a state. Therefore, the groundbreaking ceremony we are witnessing today is a paradigm shift from the usual lip services of the past.

” This demonstrates our commitment towards building world-class road infrastructure that will endure over time to make Niger a reference point in terms of infrastructure and socio-economic development in Nigeria.

”The construction of this road is expected to reduce travel time, rate of accidents, and operational costs for vehicles and facilitate quick delivery of goods and services thereby accelerating socio-economic growth and the development of the citizens”.

The APC national chairman noted that President Bola Tinubu meant business in putting Nigeria on the right track calling on the citizens to support the President to enable him to succeed in his projects and programmes.

He also described the Niger state governor as a shining example of good governance adding that the governor has made the difficult task of governance very easy.

“From what I have seen so far, on the ground, there is no doubt that in the next few years, Niger State will be completely transformed, the landmark economic projects, being commissioned today, are indications that Nigerians can work in our time.

‘He came and met challenges but he has taken on those challenges with poise, decorum, panache, and proactiveness, and he is producing results.

“So on behalf of our great party, the APC let me say that we a very proud of Governor Umaru Bago and present him as a shining example of good governance”, the APC national chairman said.
